KOCHI: To celebrate Independence Day on August 15, two friends Tarun Srinivasan and Vishnu SH from Class VIII in Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Attukal are planning to display the portraits of some prominent freedom fighters in the country. Prominent personalities like Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Subash Chandra Bose, Kelappan, etc. were born on the canvases of young artists.
The duo were guided by Arun Vijay, art teacher at Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Thiruvananthapuram. âVishnu’s mother is my colleague. So I started giving private drawing lessons for him and his friend Tarun last year. Although very new to the art, they were talented and began taking portraits within two months of joining. Recently they had the idea of ââdrawing freedom fighters before independence day. They also intend to represent life-size drawings of some of these freedom fighters on canvas, âsays Arun.
The realistic portraits made in graphite pencil are a tribute to freedom fighters, says Vishnu S H. âTarun and I have been best friends since kindergarten. We both love to draw lifelike portraits, especially capturing his face as it is. I felt happy and proud drawing portraits of prolific heroes that we have studied in history books â.
The rich composition of the canvas portraits of Tarun and Vishnu resembles that of real photographs of freedom fighters. Artists had to balance their online courses to find time to complete their art endeavors. âRepresenting Nehru took longer than others. I try to finish one portrait at a time and only take a few minutes break in between. We also plan to create life-size drawings of at least two freedom fighters in the coming days. The freedom fighters series also helps us learn facial structures. In addition to pencil, I also like to draw landscapes in acrylic, âexplains Tarun.
