KEEP an eye out for a York antique restorer on your TV screens.
Steve Popple, founder and owner of Antique Restoration in North Lane in York, is one of the experts appearing on Channel Four’s Mend it for Money.
The new show is filmed in Glasgow and sees some of Britain’s best restaurateurs breathe new life into amazing objects.
Presented as a restoration show with a twist, restorers must compete, present their plans to bring precious objects back to life. Most importantly, they should estimate the profit the item will make when sold and agree to a profit sharing agreement with the owner.
Steve said: “I have been doing this job for 35 years and have been here at North Lane for 15 years. I got a call from Channel 4 asking if I would be interested in participating and I went to film in Glasgow between the blockages. Last year.
“The show was great, I really enjoyed being in it and we did some interesting restorations including a compact men’s cabinet, commode and Georgian bedside table.
“We are now hoping for a second round.”
The series takes a look at the world of collectibles, antiques and dining and Steve says he’s been working throughout the lockdown, with his TV appearances already leading to three new clients so far.
He said: “I employ Ben who has worked with me for over 20 years, and I have been leading workshops for 30 years and I have been self-employed for 15 years.
“Due to the nature of our work, we are always able to work safely for our clients and we are happy to quote for other work throughout the pandemic.
“So we have the experience to take on most projects, large and small. ”
Episodes 11-15 air all week this week from Tonight to Friday (Feb.15 – Feb.19), 5 p.m. on Channel 4.
